Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of dangerous diseases. Accordingly, it is better for us to know what lung cancer is, what the diagnosis is, what the symptoms are, how the lung cancer treatment is, etc.

Lung cancer is a disease in which cancerous cells develop in the tissues of the lungs. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer deaths in both men and women, accounting for nearly a third of cancer deaths annually in the United States. It is most often caused by smoking. The lung cancer symptoms are:
• a cough or chest pain that doesn’t go away
• a wheezing sound when breathing
• shortness of breath
• coughing up blood
• hoarseness
• swelling in the face and neck
So, if one of you has such symptoms, you should see a doctor.

Lung cancer treatment depends on the cancer’s specific cell type, how far it has spread, and the patient’s performance status. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Lung cancer surgery includes the removal of the tumor, lymph nodes and sections of the lung that contain the tumor. It is the treatment of choice in several types and stages of lung cancer, either alone, or in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. It is also used to remove cancerous tumors that have spread to the lungs from other parts of the body. The surgeon will recommend one of several approaches for removal of the tumor. No matter which approach is used; the surgeon will remove the tumor and send it to pathology for analysis. The pathologist will inspect the tissue for cancer cells. The final pathology report usually takes 10 to 14 days. The surgeon will notify you of your diagnosis as soon as he knows the results, or at your follow-up appointment, 2 weeks after discharge.

In summary, it is better for us to keep ourselves healthy. And one of ways that can prevent us from having such a disease is by stop smoking.
